Constructed in the 12th century, it is an excellent example of medieval fortification. It now houses a large collection of weapons and armour. On the bastion, the most powerful siege machines of the Middle Ages have been reinstated in their original attack position.

Today the castle is better known for its famous 20th Century owner, Josephine Baker. An excellent exhibition gives an insight into her extraordinary and sad live. There is a regular display of birds of prey in the gardens in front of the castle.
